Not sure which parts are supposed to come off in order to get the belt on Brokengun Long Time User Joined: 30 Jun 2009 Posts: 1242 Posted: Wed Jun 18, 2014 1:13 pm Post subject: Re: hesston pt 10 belt replace Remove the pitman arm from the pitman arm sheave/pulley. It should have a bolt holding the bearing in place. Its also the bolt that holds the counter weight for the pitman sheave providing the weight is still being used. (Most PT10's no longer have the counter weight) The locking collar will have to be removed. You do not have to un-bolt the bearing flange to get the assembly off.

Once the locking collar comes off a pry bar should allow you to slide the bearing end of the pitman arm off the stub shaft of the pitman sheave. With that out of the way you then loosen the spring that hold tension on the belt. It doesn't have to be completely removed. You should now have the tension off the belt. There is a pulley above the pitman arm sheave to the left that has a bolt through the body holding it in place remove that pulley.

Holding onto the belt will assist you in removing it. Be careful for there is a shim spacer behind the pulley its easy to lose. Once the pulley is removed This should allow you to replace the belt. At this point you may want to inspect the bearings on the pulley you just removed and make sure they turn freely. If they're ok then install the belt in reverse order. I like to take a long pry bar and hold down on the pulley that's part of the spring tension adjustment so I can slip the belt in place. If not then you may have to remove the spring tensioner all together to get it back in place.

Before installing the pitman arm inspect the bearing and make sure its ok. If it is then your good to go. P.S before you install the belt PLEASE check the bearing behind the pitman arm sheave. It can be checked with a pry bar under the sheave/pulley using a slight up pressure.

There should be NO movement. The reason I suggest you check this bearing is that If it is bad it will cause premature belt failure.

On the 69/71 their is a bolt #17 on the idler pulley assembly tension spring #14 that has to be loosened and a strap #32 holding the idler sheave #33 on top of the idler assembly must be removed to get the belt out. Often the strap and idler sheave have been eliminated. That's what I remember from working on my brothers last year. You can view the Primary Drive for the PT 10 on the agco parts lookup online. I have no clue on the earlier models but they are shown on the parts books as well.
