Husqvarna Viking Emerald 116 User Guide

I bought an emerald 116 as my first sewing machine since childhood and could not be happier. I was recommended the brand by a friend (who has much more experience than me) who swears hers Emerald is the best sewing machine she's had for the price. I read up a bit online before I purchased my machine and decided to go for it because of the reputation that it is a reliable brand and model.

This is a comprehensive manual covering all area needed for troubleshooting and servicing of the sewing machine.

It is very easy to use and has all the functions I require - I've been using it for 2 years now and have not had a days trouble or ever wanted anything else function-wise, though maybe if you were sewing full time you might want something more heavy duty. My sister bought a similar level Singer machine a couple of months before I bought my emerald, and she has had to bring it in to get fixed/service many times (and once it was unfixable so she had to be given a new machine) so I certainly feel that I made the right choice! This Viking Emerald 116 machine worked well until I started making outdoor gear, using a very sturdy Signature Sunstop thread and siliconized nylon fabric. The upper & lower threads locked under the fabric with the upper thread tension dialed to its highest. The machine doesn't permit easy adjustments of bobbin thread tension-one must remove the plate under the presser foot to get to the bobbin case tension screw. Even with loosening the bobbin thread tension, the stitch quality didn't approach the quality of the stitches that the saleswoman made with the machine-for me it produces stitches neither straight nor consistently locked between the top and bottom of the stitching.

I borrowed a Bernina to finish the project I was working on. A local sewing shop loaded my thread into an older Pfaff with a front loading bobbin.

It sewed straight, well balanced stitches in both sheer fabrics and 12 layers of denim. Before dropping hundreds of $ on any machine, take your fabric and thread into a sewing shop to discover the machines that will handle your work. If you need to work on different materials in the future, you should resign yourself to possibly having to buy a more capable machine. In my case, I had no idea that I'd ever be using a thread that my Viking wouldn't handle. I might have done better by buying a used Bernina or other well regarded high end make. My Emerald 116 does NOT have needle up/needle down. The pedal is nothing special-very plain jane.

It does have drop feed, and adjustable presser foot tension. The work-light is adequate. Birdnesting of the thread occurred occasionally. The machine will allow positioning the needle to the right when using a straight stitch. The one button hole I made turned out to my satisfaction. I bought the husqvarna emerald 116 sewing machine from Sunlit Blooms in Townsville for my teenage daughter 2 years ago when she was 14. The machine has been great, she has completed several dressmaking projects and commenced a beginners quilt on the machine, and it has not missed a beat. Mazak vtc 300c.

It's great that she has learnt on this machine because she now understands the basic operation of a sewing machine, it is a reliable and easy unit in a sturdy hard case and will see her through many more years of simple sewing projects. The ladies in the shop where we bought it are friendly and helpful, and the dressmaking lessons were great for both of us. I've bought 3 husqvarna machines (the emerald, a sapphire and an overlocker) in the last 3 years there and I'm immensely happy with them all.

Once this piece loosens its grip on the feet, the feet can shift in the way of the needle and cause breakage that way, and damage to the feet and machine. Replacement cost for the ankle is $25, and we want to minimize how often this part is replaced.

So we have money to buy other stuff! Instructions Maintenance Info Vacuum out the bobbin area (remove bobbin and bobbin case) after each use, especially if your project is particularly fuzzy. This will help keep our service costs down. If the ankle (piece that the presser feet snaps into) grip on the presser feet becomes loose, please contact Jan or Kevin, who will replace the ankle.

Loose ankles cause loose feet, which cause the needle to randomly strike the feet and break, which after time creates alignment issues with the machine.
